Born and raised in Recife, Pernambuco, and based in Berlin since 2019, percussionist, singer, and composer Aduni Guedes brings a musical journey shaped by Brazil, Africa, and the Diaspora. A founding member of Sonic Interventions, winner of the 2025 German Jazz Prize, he has also performed and recorded with artists including Àbáse, Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, Noah Slee and others.
Drawing on this journey, Aduni presents Gira Jazz, a new musical gathering rooted in Jazz de Terreiro.
Terreiros are sacred spaces and communities of Afro-Brazilian religions, where music and rhythm are part of spiritual practice and collective life. At Gira Jazz, these rhythmic languages become the starting point for a dialogue with jazz, R&B, and hip-hop.
Percussion leads the way, improvisation keeps the music open, and the session explores the connections between Black musical traditions across the globe through groove and collective playing.
You don’t need to know these traditions beforehand. Gira Jazz is an invitation to encounter them through live music, improvisation, and rhythm.
